Mission:

As the Food Safety Manager for Eastern Europe, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire food safety process from raw material reception to the final product reaching customers. Your primary role will be ensuring food safety, hygiene, and compliance with local regulations and global standards across multiple countries within the region. You will lead the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of food safety management systems to meet regulatory requirements and company standards.

This position requires a thorough understanding of local food safety laws, as well as a strong capability to enforce global hygiene and safety protocols across multiple operational sites in the region.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Food Safety & Hygiene Management:

 ·       Oversee Food Safety Systems: Lead and update the food safety management system (FSSC), ensuring compliance with HACCP and local regulations in each country (Romania, Ukraine, Poland, Croatia).

·       Regulatory Monitoring: Regularly monitor and review food safety regulations and ensure all company practices are compliant with local and EU food safety laws.

·       Audit Management: Coordinate and supervise internal food safety audits, ensuring corrective actions are taken when necessary.

·       Operational Support: Advise operational managers on food safety best practices, improvements, and ensuring the proper implementation of food hygiene standards at all sites.

 

Workplace Safety and Risk Management:

 ·       Health & Safety Management: Oversee the implementation of health and safety management systems across all sites, including the preparation and maintenance of Risk Assessments.

·       Training & Awareness: Design and deliver training programs on food safety, hygiene, and workplace safety to staff across all sites. Conduct periodic refresher training as needed.

·       On-Site Inspections: Conduct surprise inspections to monitor the proper implementation of food safety protocols, hygiene standards, and the traceability of products.

 

Quality Control and Improvement:

 ·       Supplier Relations: Manage relationships with suppliers to ensure compliance with quality and hygiene standards. Perform regular quality control checks and audits of products.

·       Continuous Improvement: Propose improvements to quality and safety processes and introduce new practices that align with company standards and local requirements.

·       Reporting: Contribute to the development and maintenance of a reporting system to track bacterial analysis, work-related accidents, and overall food safety performance across sites.


Foodborne Illness Risk Prevention:

 ·       Risk Prevention Protocols: Develop and implement comprehensive food safety protocols to prevent foodborne illnesses across all sites in the region. This includes ensuring that food handling, storage, and processing procedures are consistently followed to mitigate the risk of contamination.

·       Country-Specific Protocols: It is essential that updated food safety protocols are in place for each country (Romania, Ukraine, Poland, Croatia) in accordance with local regulations and the specific risks of each region. The Food Safety Manager will be responsible for reviewing and updating these protocols regularly to ensure they remain aligned with both local laws and the global standards set by the company.

·       Training and Awareness: Regularly train and raise awareness among staff on the importance of foodborne illness prevention, focusing on proper hygiene practices and correct handling of food to minimize contamination risks.

·       Incident Response: Establish clear and efficient procedures for responding to any incidents of foodborne illness, including communication with relevant authorities, investigation of the source, and corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.

 

Regional Coordination & Leadership:

 ·       Multi-Site Coordination: Oversee food safety activities across multiple countries, ensuring consistent application of company policies and local compliance with food safety standards.

·       Cross-Country Collaboration: Work closely with site managers, kitchen teams, and operational staff to ensure adherence to food safety guidelines across the region.

·       Regional and Global Reporting: Ensure that all required reports on food safety, hygiene, and safety are completed and submitted on time to both regional and global directors.

Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications:

 ·       Professional Expertise: Deep knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices (HACCP, ISO certifications, 5S, etc.).

·       Experience: Experience in a similar role is required, with a strong background in writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and developing HACCP plans.

·       Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of food safety regulations across Eastern Europe, including local laws in Romania, Ukraine, Poland, Croatia…

·       Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant food safety management software.

·       Leadership Skills: Proven experience in managing teams, motivating others, and overseeing multi-site operations.

Additional Information:

 ·       Fluency in English is required; knowledge of local languages (Romanian, Ukrainian, Polish, or Croatian) is a plus.

·       Travel Requirements: Frequent travel within client sites and CPU (central kitchens) located in Eastern Europe will be required.

·       Degree in Food Safety, Food Science, Quality Management, or a related field is preferred.
